WATCA is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit organisation that has brought together more than 30 local community groups across Western Australia. We are everyday community members who care deeply about our trees.
A few years ago, urban trees were barely part of the public conversation in Western Australia.
Today, urban tree loss is regularly making headlines, the WA Government has committed to a 30% canopy target and councils across Perth are adopting tree retention policies.
With WATCA's help, more than 10 local governments have adopted tree retention policies to help protect mature trees on private land - with many more in the pipeline.
We’re proud of the role WATCA has played in helping drive this change. But there is still MUCH more to do!
Perth continues to lose thousands of mature trees every year, while our planning framework still allows widespread and unmitigated tree clearing to create new suburbs.
