About us

WATCA – Western Australian Tree Canopy Advocates - is a community-driven organisation that supports the protection and expansion of tree canopy in WA’s cities and towns.

The Urban Tree Canopy - also called the Urban Forest - describes all the trees within an urban area including parks, streets, verges, gardens…and it brings enormous benefits to our community and environment.

Many cities - like Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Singapore – have successful tree regulation legislation and Tree Canopy Targets in place which strike a balance between urbanisation and preserving precious green spaces.

We’re advocating for WA to develop and implement state-wide legislation that will better protect our urban tree canopy from unsustainable development and help to retain and grow trees for future generations.
